I am an Empath.

As such, I know that Psychic ability is, to some degree, real.

Call it what you like. Genetic mutation, your brain being wired differently than your average person's, whatever.

I, personally, am a God-Fearing man, and thusly, I attribute my gift to being of God.

But I know that there are others out there like me. Other Empaths, possibly movers, watchers, who knows?

I have met other Empaths, but I wanna know WHO ELSE is out there!? WHAT else is out there?!

I got to thinking about what the POSSIBILITIES of being an empath are..the theories...this is the subject of my wild imagination, and the following is a ficticious conversation depicting said theories:

“ OK so how does this become militarily advantageous?”
“Aah, now that is something different entirely: the ability to instill a desired emotion upon another.”
“Like make them feel happy?”
“If I feel the need, yes.”
“Somehow I don’t really believe that.”
“Well then let’s do a very simple demonstration…in fact the easiest one. Anger.”
“Excuse me?”
“Oh, I’m sorry…did you not understand what I just said?”
“You calling me an idiot?”
“Pretty much.”
“It’s not working.”
“Oh, but it is. See, anger is the easiest. Wanna know why?”
“No I don’t but I bet you’re gonna tell me aren’t you?”
“Now, now…no need for sarcasm…”
“…..”
“It’s a double hitter. You don’t want it to work. Because if you admit it’s working, you are thus admitting to losing self-control. This, naturally, makes you even angrier. I’m making you angry, and as a natural and very effective side-effect, you’re making yourself angry. The downside is…in this scenario, anyways, that if I just cut off my communication to your emotional center, then you will remain angry.
You won’t calm down for some time unless I instill that calmness on you once more.”
“Ok, so how is this advantageous in action?”
“Well think about it…I can walk into a room full of enemies, and have them all start shooting at eachother. I can make them feel such anger and hatred to one another that they wouldn’t even notice the team moving amongst them.
Fear is another one to use. To instill such a fear in the heart of an enemy that he loses self-control. He cannot move. He cannot think clearly. He panics. Probably wets himself.
But to make things more…interesting…would be to play on his subconscious fears while leaving his conscious mind alone.”
“I’m not sure I follow…”
“The human mind can basically be split into two sections. The Rational and Irrational. The Instinct and the Intelligence. The greatest example of this is a man at War. He is terrified for his life. Chances are he will die. He knows this and fears this, but he puts those fears aside and controls himself. The Fear never leaves him, but he remains in control.
Now imagine it in reverse. Imagine your conscious mind not being terrified at all, yet you have lost all control over your body. Your Subconscious has taken over and is petrified. Literally.
You can stare your enemy in the face with anger on your lips and vengeance in your eyes, but all the while you shake and quiver on your knees and sweat a cold sweat and all your muscles go stiff and you are unable to move as if you were staring your worst nightmare in the face.
That, my friend, is the power of sub-empathic control.”
“So: You can read another’s emotions.”
“Correct.”
“You can identify the level and complexity and often the details of those emotions.”
“Through the careful science of deduction, yes.”
“This ability of sensing can, if left to its own devices, overwhelm and consume you.”
“Very much so.”
“You can also, in fact, reverse the polarity of this sense and instill, or rather, enforce, chosen emotions upon a specific subject or subjects.”
“If properly trained and focused, yes.”
“You can also choose whether or not to allow your subject to be conscious of his own body’s emotions.”
“Absolutely.”
“Do you not feel that this is an overwhelmingly abusive gift?”
“Incredibly so. Both upon myself, and those who are at the receiving end. But be it known, that we’ve only discussed the darker side of it. You have yet to hear the stories of men who have survived certain circumstances because they were enforced to not panic. They were enforced to push through. They were enforced to be strong.”
“I think we have all the basic information that we require from you at this time, thank you. Is there anything final you would want to add?”
“Just bear in mind: this Gift is a lonely one. To bear the weight of those around you on your shoulders, and forcing to put yourself below them. To listen to the screaming emotions of others while subduing your own.
You often wonder who is really feeling…the person in front of you, or you yourself?”

According to the Movie PUSH, there are certain categories of Psychics. Some are more believable than others.

Watchers can "See the future, even though its not as simple as it may sound."
Movers. Basically, its just another way of saying Telekinetic...people who can move things with their minds.
Pushers have the ability to push their way into other people's minds, and make them believe whatever they choose.
Bleeders able to emit psychic frequency "Screeches" which can errupt blood vessels causing victims to bleed.
Sniffs: people who can determine the current or past situation of a person by the smelling and/or touching an object once owned by the desired subject.
Stitches: someone who can, through tactile contact, control the nervous system of another, sometimes allowing the person to heal, or to cripple them.
Shadows: Have the ability to "Shade" people or objects from the prying minds of other psychics such as sniffs.
Wipers: can wipe memories from the mind of another person.

Now for the one they left out:

Probes. This is me. We are the sensors. The feelers. The Detectors. The official terminology is Empaths.

I am an empath, and this is my story.

I can sense other people’s emotions.
Basically…if you were to think of someone who is Telepathic, you would think of someone who can read another person’s mind, and if trained and powerful enough, can, in fact, control said person’s mind.
An Empath is similar, but on a much more primal level. Based on Emotions and instincts.
For example: before entering a room, I already know how many people are inside, and what each one of them is feeling because I can sense them.
…not just sense, but read in every detail. You see, emotions are a lot more complex than just love, hate, fear, joy, and so on. Love can have many different levels, and by reading the specifics of the level, one can begin to understand the specifics of their thoughts.
For an example, lets look at love. There are many variations of love. There’s familial love, like the kind you experience with siblings. There’s Parental, like the kind of love you feel towards your parents or children. Romantic, well…that’s self-explanatory. There’s comradic love…the love of comrades, friends. Patriotic love…for one’s country, town, or even circle of friends…
…you get my point.
Anyways, this level of detail allows me, as I said, to know more about a person’s thoughts. For example, someone who is feeling depressed, if looked at deeper, is feeling depressed because he is feeling lonely. He is feeling lonely, because he is feeling the overwhelming emotion of romantic love. This combination thus makes him feel distracted and also frustrated. It’s simple mathematics, really. So, by deduction, I know that this man is missing his wife or girlfriend very very much. He obviously would rather be with her than in his current circumstance.
It kinda almost sounds like I'm reading his mind…a lot like telepathy.
That is technically not the case.
Through practice and focus, a skilled Empath can quickly and decisively figure out what is going on in a subject’s mind by deducing and calculating the clues given to him by that subject’s emotion.
It can actually be overwhelming sometimes, and it can control an untrained Empath quite easily.
Let’s look at a sports arena for a perfect example. An Empath goes to a hockey game. The team is winning and in the end wins. 30,000 people (or the majority of) are feeling ecstatic and celebratory. They’re cheering, hooting, hollering and it’s a pure blast of joy and ecstasy. The Empath also will feel this, to an overwhelming degree.
One might debate that the supposed empath is really just succumbing to what is commonly known as the Mob Effect.
So then, lets take the sport out of the equation. Lets just take 30,000 people, have them all stand in a stadium. Motionless, silent. But every single one of them deep inside is screaming for joy.
The Empath walks into the stadium, and like a Tsunami washes away a small town, he or she is swept away by the feeling of incredible joy, to the point where it is literally overwhelming and they lose control.”
He would not be able to focus on any one individual who would have a separate feeling. Even if they were standing right beside him, because everyone else is too loud.
Actually…sound. That’s a good analogy. Go to a concert where the music is blaring, the crowd cheering and someone beside you trying to talk in a normal voice…no hope in all hell would you be able to listen to them, the surroundings are just too noisy.
Group-emotion is the same way, and often enough the empathy with be so saturated by that emotion that they themselves will feel it whether they want to or not. In the scenario just discussed, it’s not a bad thing. But put that same Empath in a room full of Psycho-killers…
It becomes a sub-conscious thing. Sometimes to the point where even our very dreams are influenced by the feelings we sense around us.
But a trained Empath would be able to drown out those feelings and focus on a single "Target" and determine their feelings and to some degree, their thoughts.
